Top Key West Attractions for Beach Lovers
Looking for a fantastic beach in Key West? Most vacationers are amazed to find that the tropical paradise
doesn’t have too many beaches. In fact, Key West has a lot to offer to its guests other than beaches. But then, if
you cannot think beyond beaches on your vacation, then the island city will not disappoint you either. You
certainly have a few options for quality beach time.
See One of the Gorgeous Beaches at Bahia State Honda Park
Enjoy a thirty-mile drive from Key West and soon you’ll spot one of the most gorgeous beaches. The joys of
taking a leisurely stroll in miles of sugary sand or getting soaked up in the shallow and clear near-shore water is
indeed amazing. And then you can also find various campsites that are available for rent. To get to this beach,
you need to take US 1 to mile marker 34.
Indulge in Power-packed Fun at Dry Tortugas Beach
About 90 miles from Key West, you’ll find the mesmerizing and stunning Fort Jefferson National Park. From
here, you can take the Dry Tortugas Ferry to one of the best beaches in the Florida Keys. Spend an entire day
exploring the fort or lazing around the beach. You may also take a Dry Tortugas seaplane to get a
comprehensive view of the islands. The crystal clear waters of the beach are a perfect choice for those interested
in snorkeling or other power-packed adventure.
Enjoy Promising Beach Activities at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park
Enjoy the perfect blend of coral rock and sand at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park’s beach. You’ll love the time
spent swimming along the serene waters of the beach. Also take a snorkeling tour to explore the rock-pile
barriers. Even a few years back, the beach was replenished with sand, but then, with the sudden onset of
Hurricane Dennis things have changed considerably.
It has swept some of the sand into the extreme bottom, thereby leaving sections of the beach back to its former
rocky state. To get to this beach, you need to travel past the Southard Street into Truman Amex. From here,
continue driving to the end and keep an eye on the signs that indicate the park’s entrance. You need to pay a
small entrance fee to get into the park.
Visit the Largest Beach - Smathers Beach
Smathers Beach is the largest beach in Key West that runs along the southern coast of the island for
approximately 2 miles. Some of the well-known beach activities that you may go in for are tanning, volleyball,
and beachsport/watersport rentals.
Usually, tropical storms tend to sweep the sand away, and almost every other year the city has to restock the
beach. To reach this beach, you may take South Roosevelt Blvd., from the Key West airport and then continue
riding towards Bertha Street.
